Memo #19
The first in a twice-a-week updates, looking back, looking ahead, but mostly looking Up.
Speaking of Sunday…
We continued our study through the book of Titus. The book of Titus is all about a church knowing the Gospel, will be growing in godliness.
As opposed to the false teachers found on Crete, Titus was to teach what accords with sound doctrine.
Bryan showed us how there are specific things every group of people in our church can live out in keeping with the gospel. The primary one for everyone is SELF-CONTROL.
Bryan closed with the question of whether our lives are adorning or reviling the Gospel.
Discussion Questions: (you can use these over family dinner, in the car, or just thinking through them yourself)
How can self-control help us in different parts of our life? Why is it important for everyone, whether they're kids, adults, or grandparents, to learn about self-control?
How can we do the things we're told to do as employees, like listening to our boss/teacher, being polite, and doing our job well, apply to the jobs we have now?
What does it mean to "honor the Gospel" and why is it important? How can this idea guide how we treat others, make choices, and grow as people?
The sermon talks about how the Gospel can bring order and peace to our lives. How can we make sure we remember and follow the Gospel's teachings, especially when things feel chaotic in the world?

Vision Moment
Last night, over bowls of soup, I shared my vision for our church. I’ll be sharing more about that through memos, videos, and other formats. To start, I want to begin the way I ended last night. Pleasant View is an old, small church in a largely forgotten part of town. And I love her for who she is. Not who she can be. Who God has made her and allowed her to be. My ultimate desire for us is that we be a great small old church.
‘“Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.” —Matthew 25:23
